The aim of this meeting was to bring together scientists interested in the challenging problems connected with the dynamics of out of equilibrium classical and quantum physical systems from both theoretical and experimental point of view, within an interdisciplinary context.
Specifically, three main areas of out-of-equilibrium statistical mechanics were covered: long range interactions and multistability, anomalous diffusion, and quantum systems.
Moreover, the conference was a discussion forum to promote new ideas in this fertile field of research, and in particular new trends such as quantum thermodynamics and novel types of quantum phase transitions occurring in non-equilibrium steady states, and topological phase transitions.

- The workshop took place at the beautiful Città del Mare Hotel and Resort, near the village of Terrasini, in the neighbourhood of Palermo, Sicily from July 22 to July 26, 2007. The workshop had its focus on the comprehension of noise's role in the dynamics of ecological complex systems, which are very sensitive to initial conditions, deterministic external perturbations and to fluctuations always present in nature. The workshop had its focus on the positive role of noise in the out of equilibrium dynamics of condensed matter physics and complex systems.
